My level of expertise regarding technology after taking this course includes a better understanding of client servers, ip configurations of computers, and the e-commerce of mobile computing. I also have more knowledge about telecommunications and networking. The most significant information I’ve learned through this course however, has to be data management systems. I now know the advantages in implementing a data management system, and the steps in a company to adapt these changes.
IS 130: Important Learning Outcomes
Two important learning outcomes that I attained through this course are data systems management, and the ethics of privacy. Data systems are increasingly used in accounting and other business industries, so understanding its uses and effects is very important in the modern world. Data management of these systems is critical for any company that utilizes large amounts of data, and a new emerging field in the business world is accounting management systems. The other important learning outcome was the privacy and ethics portion of the course. Privacy is a very important right, but in this technology driven world, retaining that right is not always so easy. Many companies reserve certain rights that allow them to surpass an employee’s right to privacy, such as electronic surveillance. The ethics regarding these decisions however, are not so black and white. Finding a comprehensive compromise that protects an employee’s right to privacy while providing the employer with adequate assurance for their trust is key in today’s business world.
